Party

Daughter #2 had her birthday yesterday.  She started it by getting up at 4:30 to watch the wedding.  She would not leave for school until she saw the kiss on the balcony.
The hats alone were worth the watch.  I love hats!

Today was her party.  She had a blast.  Being so close to Easter she wanted a Bunny party.  Here's the cake.
We topped the day off with a trip to the pet store for a brand new pair of friends.  Introducing Goldie and Sparkles.

Big Weekend Coming up!!

There are less than 12 hours to go......

No it's not the Royal wedding.  (But I will be up at 4:30 to start watching:)

Little Britches turns 7 tomorrow!  She's sooooo excited.  She loves watching the news now that they are kind enough to count down her birthday;)

So as I am watching Kate walk down the aisle I will be baking a monster bunny cake!  Big party planned for the weekend.

In other news.....
Quilt Sue had this humorous post earlier this month at Quilt Times on an early morning wake up call from birds.  I was some what envious of her birds......
Now I have my own.  A pair of Cardinals has moved into the shrubbery outside my living room window.  They make a wonderful racket at 5am.  Mama didn't pick the real estate very well.  It's only 4 feet away from my front door, and car.  Not to mention it's at the perfect level for Little Britches to pick up and hold!  YIKES!

Anyway, this morning I stood on my sofa to look into the nest and their was one small egg, I think it was blue.  Mama spent all morning in that nest.  2 hours later I looked in again and there were 2 little eggs in the nest.   Oh...I am so excited.

Now I just have to keep the little ones away from the bushes!

Scrap Happy Saturday

Today is Scrap Happy Saturday.  I actually have something to show!  You can check out others here.  I started making paper-pieced string triangles.  I was inspired by the pillow that Crazy Mom made.  You can check it out here.

Here are my pics.

These are 4 inch equilateral triangles, with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.  Most are sewn in rows, others are sewn like log cabins.  They are a lot of fun and very addictive.  I'm using leftover homework for the papers.  I got that idea from Crazy mom too!  I have 10 purple triangles.

Here they are in a row.  I haven't decided how to sew them together yet.  I am going back and making 10 of the colors previously used in the rainbow scrap challenge (red, blue, green).  I think I will alternate colors and have the same colors make a diagonal row!?  I have until January to figure that out!

Easter Egg dye is NOT just For Eggs!

Today me and the girls dyed Easter eggs.  I remembered reading on the QA forum that you can dye fabric with Egg dye.  So......with the left over coloring I dyed a few leftover pieces of PFD fabric.

It looked really pretty.  Until I washed it....

I think for projects that are not going to be washed this is OK.  But it is not colorfast!

Girl Scouts

We love Girl Scouts at my house.  We are huge fans of the program.  Our troop is a multi age group.  It's a lot of fun.  And a lot of work for our troop leader.  As a thank you for all of that work, I am making a small wall hanging.  Most of the fabrics are from the Girl Scout line, except for the white and the blue recycle print.  But it works so I used it.
There are a few corners that don't quit meet!  I guess that's what happens when you draw the pattern yourself!  The center block is actually a photo of the brownies and daisies.  The girls will be signing their names on the white triangles.  I am embroidering a message around the photo.  I like how it has turned out so far.  Very bright and cheerful.  I don't think I will be adding a border, either.  I like the look of it without one.  I will also be using the left over fabric for a pieced backing.  I have 2 weeks to finish it!   Nothing like waiting to the last moment!

New Finish

I finished, "One year later", that's the working title anyway.  Today is the 1 year anniversary for the BP oil spill, so it is fitting that I finished today.  This is also my first abstract quilt.  I like it.  The beads add a lot to the finished quilt.
I also started on a wall hanging for our girl scout leader.  I have gone through several plans, none of them working right!  We will try again today.

It's Blue

This is what I have been working on this week.  It's for the QA Forum Challenge.  I know it's not purple, I will have to work on that later.  The theme for this challenge was one color.  I have a lot of blue.  I also decided to make it for April 20.  That will be the one year anniversary of the BP oil spill in the Gulf.  I wanted a lot of texture and a sense of movement.  I added pleats, machine thread work and hand quilting.  I am currently adding beads and trim.

WIP
I so need a better camera!  The cross hatching was drawn on at 1 am one morning when I could not sleep.  I swear I used a ruler and marked off 1 inch segments.  It still came out uneven!!! You can't really tell much by these pictures.  Here is a picture of the beads I am using.

Great Day

Today was a great day!!!
I received my test scores today and I passed!! Yippee!!!
Now I just need a job!

I also collected 8 quilts from the guild for AAQI (Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative)  I was so happy.  It's like Christmas.  To top that my first AAQI quilt sold for $45.  I am so happy!!!

And to top it all off, I feel better today.  I actually started a new art quilt.  This one is for the QA Forum Challenge.  It's on One color.  I chose blue because I have a lot of it and I can't stop thinking about the beach and going swimming.  While I was rummaging around for blue I found a few pieces of purple.  I might be able to whip something up after all.  Pictures will be later.

Are you kidding me....

Just as little britches finally gets well enough to go back to school, she was home for 2 weeks with a fever, I get sick!  The kids won't share their toys, but they will share their virus!

On the bright side....Quilt Guild is tomorrow, and barring a fever I will be there!

Look What I found in my Garden

Look what I found in my garden.  Isn't it lovely!
Try not to look at all the leaves in the background;)  These are actually purple.  They would look great for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I still haven't came across any purple.  Just a few tiny scraps here and there.  It is obviously not a color I use a lot!  Might have to sit this month out:(

I also harvested my lettuce this morning:)

I spent forever this morning washing it off.  Now I look forward to a monster sized salad for dinner.  Yum yum.

Coco Goes Shopping

Several pieces of news today.  Daughter #2 is still sick:(  At this point I'm not sure if she will ever go back to school!

Also April's color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Purple.  I have no ideas fr this one!!!!  Totally stumped.  I'm not even sure how much purple fabric I have!!!

More importantly.....Coco goes shopping is finished!  It's actually been finished for a while!  I just finally took a picture.  The thing about Coco is, there is no batting.  Instead I used a piece of muslin.  I backed it with pink organza.  The idea was for the quilt to be placed in front of a light source so you can she the "shadow".  It looks really cool.  Doesn't photograph well.

Speaking of shadows.  My #1 daughter was working on a Brownie Try-it on Shadows.  She had to take pictures of shadows.  Here is hers.

Saturday

I"m so happy it is Saturday.  It has been a busy week.  Thursday my Mommie turned 60.  We all got together for dinner.  I made the cake!
The little boxes are were the candles go.  I thought if I put 60 candles on the cake we might violate the fire code!! Daughter #2 has been sick all week.  She had a school play on Thursday.  We let her go for that.  Bad parents!

And Then I worked all week.
But look at this my garden is doing so well!!

The English peas are eaten young, straight off the vine.  They are so good!
This is our first attempt at lettuce.  I can't wait for them to get big enough to eat.  My goal is to not buy a canned veggie all Summer!
