Pumpkin Days

Over at Quilting Arts they are having a forum challenge on "thread designs".  The piece can not have any fabric additions!  No applique...No piecing!  HMMMMMM.....


So I came up with the idea of a pumpkin at night!  Well it is October, it also sounded easier than anything else I came up with.

There's Mr. Pumpkin drawn in chalk with a nice bat in the corner.  I spent 2 days and at least 5 shades of orange doing the thread work.  So here he is halfway through the 1st bit of sewing.

He's showing up nicely.  Now here he is with the open areas painted yellow.  ( I promise I painted them!) And it's after the last bit of sewing.

He's coming along very well I think.  I took it off of the stabilizer thinking I would only do a basic outline for the bat and then use a little glow in the dark thread for the pumpkin face and an all over quilt design.


What do you think I should do with the bat?

Iris finished

I finished the little Iris quilt for the QA forum challenge.  I will mail it off next week to AAQI.

It was a lot of fun to make, which is why I spent all day trying to finish it!

I started this month's QA Forum Challenge entry.  The theme is a technique from the magazine.  I chose thread painting and using a photo as the base.  Remember this photo:

I loaded it in the photo software, then posterized it and softened the edges:  Of course I can't find that image now!

Then printed it on fabric.  I used 3 shades of blue, 3 shades of purple, and 3 shades of yellow for the flowers.  I used 2 shades of green for the leaves and a lovely variegated brown for the background. 

Now I have to figure out what to do with it!  I am thinking about some sort of pieced border to make it about 8x10 size.

Great Day

Today was a great day!!!
I received my test scores today and I passed!! Yippee!!!
Now I just need a job!

I also collected 8 quilts from the guild for AAQI (Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative)  I was so happy.  It's like Christmas.  To top that my first AAQI quilt sold for $45.  I am so happy!!!

And to top it all off, I feel better today.  I actually started a new art quilt.  This one is for the QA Forum Challenge.  It's on One color.  I chose blue because I have a lot of it and I can't stop thinking about the beach and going swimming.  While I was rummaging around for blue I found a few pieces of purple.  I might be able to whip something up after all.  Pictures will be later.
